Chiswick House's Annual Magic Lantern Festival

Ever dreamt of walking in a place full of dazzling lights and enormous glowing display of animals and mythical creatures? Or of being a part of your childhood’s favorite fairytale? How about ice skating around some colorful lantern displays, then indulging in some tasty Asian street-food after?

Well, the annual Magical Lantern Festival at the Chiswick House Gardens in West London has all these and more!

The event is what marks the end of the Chinese New Year which means that visitors are in for a lot of beautiful lantern displays, glittering fireworks, and the traditional dancing dragon! Set up on a 26-hectare paradise, the Chiswick House Gardens is, indeed, the best venue for this kind of festival due to its grand design and large open space.

The Magical Lantern Festival’s theme this coming year is The Silk Road. It is defined by the Chinese as an ancient trade route that links the east and the western cities, and can be traced back to the historical Han Dynasty of China. That said, lanterns and displays are organized in such a way that it resembles a mini-path and visitors can follow the trail while viewing the different decorations that dot their surroundings. While walking along the this path, there is are also multiple stops with familiar scenes from Central and Middle Asia, India; including expeditions of the renowned Chinese explorer Zheng He and it even showcases the tale of Alladin depicted by a huge genie fully made of a lantern.

Getting tired of walking along scenic paths and want more action? No worries, you can have more fun in their 600 meter-square ice rink with the delightful lantern backdrop still in full view. You can also try grabbing some virtual reality goggles to bring the magic of the festival to life. If you get hungry, don’t fret! You can try the Asian street food or you have a drink from an ice glass courtesy of Eis Haus ice lounge—a bar which is made entirely of ice!

The most important thing of all, to enjoy this five-week long festival, is that you find the best place to rest in after a long day. Have you heard about Bed And Breakfast Paddington? One hotel that many local folks speak out as the best place to stay is The Hotel Edward Paddington. Truly a London pride, this hotel has rooms that feature an elegant outside view, luxury bedding, cotton-rich linen and pillows plus a high-speed WI-FI Internet access. Located near the venue of the Magical Lantern Parade as well as many other attractions like Madame Tussauds, the Big Ben, the Buckingham Palace and the Hyde Park, truly this is the best place to stay for you to fully enjoy this magical event.
